What we gave up and what we got.

In 2012 we bought land near Clay City, Indiana. It was mostly wooded and had a small amount of pasture land. We traded a new Jeep for a backhoe and a 4-wheeler and began clearing the land with help from a lot of family and friends. We had no experience, but we learned from our mistakes. Much as we had our entire lives.

We cleared the land, built a road back to a large lake that bordered the land, and started our farm. After the basics were done, we began building our house. It was small and rustic. We used a lot of reclaimed materials. But, it was cheap and it was “expendable” when we were certain to make mistakes. We even built our own doors.

After the home was built, we needed livestock. We settled on sheep, chickens, ducks, and geese. What a great experience for our grandchildren. We spent the next 12 years living and building up the farm. The grandbabies got to come and spend every weekend with us. They learned such valuable things and got to experience things many young kids will not, in today’s society.

In 2024, we decided to sell our farm. So many events happened after that decision and it’s hard to string them all together. But in the end, we gave up the farm and we got a new truck and a new to us fifth wheel and left our previous life “mostly” behind.

So, here we are today. Inviting you all, our old friends and new friends, to follow us as we make this gigantic leap. We don’t really have a plan, we don’t really have a budget, we don’t really even have the funds. But we have the will and the drive. We have proven ourselves over and over. We take risks, we take leaps, we make hasty decisions, and at all costs, we make our dreams reality.

It’s time for us to see what we haven’t seen.

Let’s Go!
