Northgate RV Travel Park

Just inside of the state of Alabama, just outside the city of Athens, we found this little RV Park. If you are looking for amenities, stop now and drive on. But, if you are looking for a place to park your rig and take a break from the road, this little gem might just fit your needs.

Northgate RV Travel Park is really nothing more than a small field with large pull through sites. A little word of caution though. The entrance to the park is just south of the exit ramp of I-65 on highway 31, just off the Athens exit. The entrance is wide, but there is quite a drop off both sides into a culvert. So, driving south and making a right turn into the entrance will require you to swing wide and it might be tight for large rigs, like ours. We found it more comfortable to continue south and turn around just a short distance past the park entrance and then come back to make a nice easy left turn into the park. It might sound like extra work, but I’m a cautious type and wasn’t in a hurry to damage my rig.

Self Service and Convenient

Once inside the entrance, you will come to a small home. We might have arrived after hours and missed anyone there, but we found easy instructions on the porch of the home. We even called the number on the packet and a gentleman picked up the call right away and gave us info about the Wi-Fi. Once you have your packet, just help yourself to any site that suits you. We arrived on a Friday evening and found only 3 or 4 other rigs in the park.

The Pull through sites offered easy access and convenient full 30 and 50 amp hookups. The “free Wi-Fi” was really not existent. Even though we parked only a few sites from the home, we still had very little signal. But let’s face it, when you’re road weary and just looking for a place to put your foot up for a night, your cell phone will have to do.

Overall, this little park was exactly what the doctor ordered. A nice and easy place to get off the interstate and rest before heading out the next morning. The cost was $45 for the night, and while that is a bit high for a park with no amenities, it’s also worth the money to have a place to rest and have hookups. Thats the difference between this park and many others. You pay here for the convenience and the value of a short stay park verses paying rates at other parks with all the frills.

The city of Athens was just down the road and offered all we needed to fill our bellies with some grub and fuel up the truck. You can check out the link to the Northgate RV Travel Park and to the City of Athens to learn more, if you plan to be in this area. I’ve added some pictures. Some we took and some came from the campground’s Google results page.
